Thalethia Routt

Associate General Counsel for the Finance and Administration Group

Thalethia B. Routt (she/her) is Associate General Counsel for the Finance & Administration Group.  She has more than twenty years of legal experience in private practice and the public sector, including over fifteen years with the Office of Legal Counsel.

Thalethia serves as a DEI Executive Sponsor for the Culture, Policies and Programming Workstream. 

As Associate General Counsel, Thalethia advises the University on various real estate, business transactional, and bankruptcy issues. She drafts, reviews, and negotiates documents related to real property transactions, including sale and purchase agreements, deeds, leases, and easements.  She also represents the University in negotiating, drafting and reviewing purchasing contracts, license agreements, memorandum of agreement, and other agreements.  Additionally, she represents the University in bankruptcy proceedings.  She also serves on the University’s Equal Opportunity Committee.

Before joining the Office of Legal Counsel, Thalethia was an associate with Mapother & Mapother, P.S.C., where she was a member of the firm’s foreclosure practice, represented lenders in residential real estate transactions, and represented creditors in consumer bankruptcy matters.  She began her legal career as a judicial clerk for Judge Sheila R. Isaac of the Fayette Circuit Court in Lexington, Kentucky.

A native of Berea, Kentucky, Thalethia received her undergraduate degree from the University of Louisville in 1997 and her law degree from the University of Kentucky J. David Rosenberg College of Law in 2000.  She is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association.
