Michia Brangers
UK Online Admissions Counselor
Michia Brangers (she/her) holds a Sociology degree from the University of Kentucky and a master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education with a concentration in Counseling from Morehead State University. As a first-generation graduate, Michia is an ally, mentor, and resource to online students embarking on their education journey.
Before starting a career in higher education, Michia worked as a contractor with the United States Army Recruiting Command and as a department trainer in the HealthCare industry. Michia later served as an Academic Advisor for online students at the KCTCS System Office. During that time, she was selected to join Elevate Leadership Kentucky’s Class of 2019 where she and other professionals traveled the Commonwealth to gain a more insightful understanding of challenges that affect our state. Michia embraces and applies these impactful experiences in her current role as the UK Online Admissions Counselor with the Teaching Learning and Academic Innovation team and in her role as co-lead for the Student Training Module work stream within the University’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion initiative.
As the UK Online Admissions Counselor, Michia creates a sustainable and intentional online experience and identifies areas for engagement and outreach to support online student success. In addition, she advocates for an improved infrastructure to support online students by providing feedback and recommendations on existing communication practices and working to ensure student support services and workflows are inclusive of online learners. As a champion for inclusivity in postsecondary education, Michia lends her expertise to several university workgroups and credits strong relationship building and shared goal setting with other campus partners as a key contributor in building a sustainable online student experience. She is eager to extend the University of Kentucky’s reach to new audiences through the use of streamlined technology practices and inclusive engagement strategies.
Implement Student Experience Module
Michia serves as a co-lead for the Implement Student Experience Module initiative within the DEI Implementation Plan. This initiative will help determine what the diversity, equity and inclusion educational experience for a student will look like.
