Two Major Initiatives. Two More Steps in Our Journey.

I am pleased today to announce to our campus two important initiatives that speak to our research capacity to address the issue of systemic racism in ways that will unequivocally demonstrate that Black Lives Matter.

It's Time to Change Our Campus Culture

During a recent forum, I was asked how we would measure whether we have been successful in emerging from this time of crisis and reckoning.

New College of Education Faculty Bridge Divides for Underserved Populations

A diverse group of new faculty recruits to the College of Education are making an impact in areas where needs are among the greatest and resources are often lacking. They will join distinguished researchers and educators who are addressing some of the most pressing issues facing the nation.

George Wright: A New Chapter for the Office for Institutional Diversity

It has never been more necessary nor more important to have an office dedicated to uniting, serving and amplifying the diverse individuals that form the fabric of our campus.

Our Continued Commitment to UK’s International Students and Community

Earlier this week, federal officials with the Student and Exchange Visitor Program issued a new regulation that would restrict international students from attending universities that only offer classes online.

A New Beginning

We announced the first steps in what will be a comprehensive effort and commitment to an action plan, designed to accelerate progress at UK for Black members of our community and for diversity across our campus. Some of our first steps include:

Racism is a Public Health Issue: a Statement from the UK College of Public Health

The following message was distributed to UK College of Public Health students, faculty, staff, and alumni on June 1, 2020.

Memorial Hall Mural: Our Past, Our Present and Why It’s Time to Move Forward

It’s against that imperfect and human backdrop that I am directing our facilities team to immediately begin the process of removing the mural in Memorial Hall.

Breonna Taylor, Our Community and Our Next Steps

For UK, one name entails a particularly deep sense of sorrow. Breonna Taylor was a student at the University of Kentucky in 2011.

Our World, Our Responsibility to Each Other

One of the lessons of this COVID-19 era is this: what happens in places that seem remote and physically removed are tragically real and relevant for so many of our colleagues and community members.yes
