University-wide Navigation

Throughout the month of October, the University of Kentucky Women’s Forum is hosting programs and professional development opportunities related to the theme of “Navigating Bias.” There are two more opportunities to join in the conversation.

On Oct. 20, from 11 a.m. to noon, the UK Women’s Forum will welcome Carol Taylor-Shim, the director of UK’s Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice, for a virtual conversation on navigating bias. Topics will include: how to have difficult conversations, how to identify discrimination, the best way to recognize one’s own privilege and use it properly as an ally within the workplace, and how to break out of patterns of behavior and practice that may perpetuate microaggressions and discrimination. No registration required, use Zoom link: https://uky.zoom.us/j/99896431796 and Meeting ID: 998 9643 1796.

On Oct. 23, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., the discussion will continue during the UK Women’s Forum Coffee & Connect event. This is a new series to help connect with one another and create a safe space for meaningful conversations. Join in the conversation with panelists Rachel Lawson, coach of the UK Women’s Softball Team; Stephanie Simmons, associate athletic director for life performance; and Steven Parker the College of Education’s associate dean for diversity, to discuss the ways that they have successfully navigated and overcome bias. Use Zoom link: https://uky.zoom.us/j/89442511267 and Meeting ID: 894 4251 1267.
